Key points

  • Two ICEYE-built MikroSAR synthetic aperture radar satellites for the Polish military launched on 30 March on the SpaceX Transporter-16 rideshare mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base; ICEYE handed over the constellation to the Polish Armed Forces within 12 months of contract signature
  • POLSARIS is the sovereign Polish Earth Observation constellation; SAR capability provides imaging through clouds, in fog and at night with resolution up to 16 centimetres — sufficient for military-equipment identification and infrastructure-change detection
  • Delivery completes one of the fastest operational satellite deployments globally; POLSARIS sits inside Poland's broader three-layer space architecture covering optical ISR (PIAST nanosats), SAR (POLSARIS/MikroSAR) and sovereign satcom (April 2026 Airbus / Thales Alenia Space / RADMOR consortium for the GEO defence telecommunications satellite)

Two ICEYE-built MikroSAR synthetic aperture radar satellites for the Polish military launched on 30 March on the SpaceX Transporter-16 rideshare mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base — the first sovereign Polish military SAR capability in orbit and the operational closure of the POLSARIS constellation delivered by ICEYE within 12 months of contract signature, one of the fastest operational satellite deployments globally.

ICEYE has formally handed over POLSARIS — the Polish sovereign radar satellite reconnaissance system — to the Polish Armed Forces. The MikroSAR platform provides synthetic aperture radar imaging through clouds, in fog and at night at resolution up to 16 centimetres — sufficient for identification of military vehicle types, infrastructure-change detection and force-disposition monitoring. The General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces confirmed the two-satellite launch on Transporter-16.

POLSARIS sits inside Poland's broader three-layer space architecture under construction across 2025–2026: optical ISR via PIAST nanosats and partner platforms, SAR via POLSARIS/MikroSAR delivered by ICEYE, and sovereign satellite communications via the April 2026 GEO defence telecommunications satellite consortium of Airbus Defence and Space, Thales Alenia Space and RADMOR. The three-tier architecture gives Warsaw sovereign access across the principal military space-domain layers.

ICEYE's 12-month delivery from contract signature is the structural template. The Finnish SAR provider has converted a defence-procurement cycle from years to under a year, with combat-validated operational track record from Ukrainian deployment since 2022 as the underwriting. POLSARIS is the second European sovereign SAR constellation delivered to a NATO state by ICEYE — extending the Nordic-led axis first set out in Germany's €35bn SAR constellations.
