The Netherlands Adds up to 392 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinders to Its 2022 Case — Value Rises From USD 117 Million to USD 412 Million
Washington, 19 October 2026
Key points
- A report under Section 36(b)(5)(C) of the Arms Export Control Act, Transmittal 26-1I, adds up to 392 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II tactical missiles to the Netherlands' 2022 case, with containers, software, transport and support
- The original notification, 22-25 of 26 May 2022, covered 95 Block II and 43 Block II+ missiles and one Block II+ guidance unit, for USD 117 million
- The new items are worth USD 295 million, taking the case to USD 412 million; the major-defence-equipment value rises by USD 269.9 million to USD 374.5 million
- The report reached Congress on 16 September and was published in the Federal Register on 19 October; the implementing agency is the US Navy
The Netherlands has added up to 392 Sidewinders to a 2022 case for 138, by amending the case rather than notifying a new sale.
The additions are all Block II, the short-range air-to-air missile of the F-35 and F-16; the notice names no aircraft and gives no delivery schedule. At USD 295 million, they average about USD 750,000 a missile with support included.
The 392 is a ceiling; how many the Netherlands orders is not yet public. The report reached Congress on 16 September and the public through the Federal Register on 19 October, where Signal No. 170 picked it up. A signed Dutch Letter of Offer and Acceptance, or an RTX contract line naming the Netherlands, would show how much of the ceiling is bought.
