Denmark's air-defence inventory is already multinational — French VL MICA, German IRIS-T SLM, the Norwegian-American NASAMS, the Franco-Italian SAMP/T and American-made TPY-4 radars — and the open question since December has been what stitches those systems into one command picture. IBCS, the Northrop Grumman battle-command system the US authorised for about EUR 3 billion, was the presumptive answer; the absence of a signed contract eight months on is what gives Thales and Systematic room to offer a competing integration layer built on a Danish company's existing C2 software rather than an imported American one.
The teaming names no contract value, no procurement timeline and no Danish government response, and the two companies control the framing entirely: this is a formal industry proposal, not evidence Copenhagen has soured on IBCS or opened a competitive process. What it establishes is that a European alternative now exists on paper for a decision Denmark has not yet made public.
Read this against the timeline, not the technology. Eight months between an IBCS authorisation and a signed contract is not unusual for a system integrating five sensor and shooter types, but it is long enough for a competing offer to be credible, and SitaWare's pitch — sovereign European software over an authorised American system — mirrors the SAMP/T-versus-Patriot argument running elsewhere in NATO's air-defence procurement this year.
