Key points

  • Thales and ArianeGroup on 5 May conducted the first successful firing of the FLP-t 150 ballistic munition at the Île du Levant test site, supported by the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA EM) Missile Testing Division
  • Operational range exceeds 150 km; rear-mounted fin guidance ensures accuracy in GNSS-jammed environments; intended replacement for the French Unitary Rocket Launchers (LRU)
  • Industrial division: Thales delivers ground launcher, fire control and launch system; ArianeGroup delivers propulsion and guidance; companion X-Fire multipurpose launcher conducted first demonstration firings on 20 May 2026

Thales and ArianeGroup on 5 May conducted the first successful firing of the FLP-t 150 ballistic munition at the Île du Levant test site, supported by the French Defence Procurement Agency's Missile Testing Division — confirming the design choices and performance envelope of the sovereign French successor to the Unitary Rocket Launcher with an operational range exceeding 150 kilometres.

Thales delivers the ground launcher, fire control and launch system; ArianeGroup delivers the propulsion and guidance systems. The munition's rear-mounted fin guidance ensures terminal accuracy in GNSS-jammed environments — the explicit design response to the Russian electronic-warfare envelope now observed across the eastern flank and the Ukrainian battlespace. The system is designed for integration into the ATLAS automation chain alongside longer-range ballistic munitions for deep-strike.

The companion X-Fire multipurpose launcher, also Thales-led with Soframe, conducted its first demonstration firings on 20 May 2026. FLP-t 150 enters the French inventory as the LRU-replacement ballistic-munition track with the X-Fire as the longer-range launcher platform; both are positioned as sovereign French capabilities outside the bilateral UK–Germany Trinity House deep-precision-strike file and the broader European Long-Range Strike Approach (ELSA) wrapper.

The Île du Levant firing reads in the same operational frame as the parallel European long-range-fires acceleration — the Destinus–Rheinmetall RUTA Block 3 announcement on 18 May and Trinity House on the UK–Germany side. France is building a sovereign middle tier (150 km+) and a longer-range upper tier in parallel rather than as substitutes, with the X-Fire as the platform bridge. A track first surfaced in Signal No. 58.
