HENSOLDT Expands Radar Production Capacity for Air and Drone Defense
New ‘Ulm 2’ site to enable series output of up to 1,000 air-defense radars per year from 2027

HENSOLDT is expanding its radar production capacity with a new external site near Ulm, leasing and converting an industrial facility designated “Ulm 2.” The company plans to invest a mid-double-digit million euro sum to prepare the hall for serial manufacturing.
The new facility will focus on radars for air- and drone-defense systems, with an output target of around 1,000 units per year by 2027. The existing Ulm campus will continue to handle development and high-complexity assembly work.
According to CFO Christian Ladurner, HENSOLDT’s production capacity has reached its limits after two years of sustained expansion. The additional site is intended to maintain delivery capability and meet urgent procurement requirements from the Bundeswehr and other European customers.
HENSOLDT currently employs about 3,000 people in Ulm, where it develops and manufactures radars, electronic-warfare systems, and electronic components for Germany’s expanding air-defense portfolio.
